Inspiration behind the painting
Immanuel – Live ART
This was painted live for Christmas at a local church for Christmas Eve. I got the opportunity to finish this painting with my 6 year old son.
Immanuel means God with us. My son’s middle name is Immanuel, too, and he was very excited to paint a painting named Immanuel. To begin with, he wrote several phrases and scripture pieces on the blank canvas. The first phrase he wrote was Immanuel God with us. May the name “Immanuel” bring peace and comfort to you, knowing that God is with us.. He came to be with us when He was born as a baby.
The painting also has three important symbolic aspects – the candle 🕯, the snow flakes ❄️,and the butterfly 🦋
Jesus is the light of the world. I was wondering if I should paint a lamp instead of a candle. My daughter’s name is Diya, which means lamp 🪔 but I decided to use the candle instead, because the lamp needs oil to give light. The candle doesn’t. The candle melts sacrificially, giving light to the world. Jesus, too, gave Himself up sacrificially to be the light to those sitting in the darkness.
The snow flakes are white, and they cover everything. When it snows, the scene is that of purity. The snow falls silently. Jesus, the baby born in a manger, came ever so quietly into the world. He chose one of the most obscure places of the ancient world and lived among an obscure people. His love is so pure, and His grace is capable of covering any filth and sin.
The butterfly that has landed on Baby Jesus represents new life and new beginnings. The butterfly is symbolic of Jesus’s birth, life, and death and resurrection. Metamorphosis. The butterfly is also symbolic of the working of the Holy Spirit, like the butterfly effect, His move impacts all human life.
