Seek – this is the word that has been rising to the top recently. Christmas is a time of seeking. At Jesus’s birth, some wise men from the Eastern part of the world, traveled to the Middle Eastern part of the world, looking for a king who was foretold to be born at the same time a star was supposed to rise. As the star appeared, these wise men, probably astrologers or people who had access to old prophecies, traveled all the way, seeking the King. Following the star, they thought the king would be born in a palace, so they went to Herod, the king of Judea. But eventually, the star led them to a humble place where infant Jesus lived. The wise men sought out the real king. These men were from far away lands, and yet they sought out the Messiah and bowed before Him to worship Him as king. “Seek, and you shall find,” the Bible says. Are we seeking like the wise men did? Are we seeking truth, hope, and life, or are we simply being tossed around by everyday life? Are we seeking out the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords? Wise men still seek.
