Inspiration Behind This Painting
The City – Acrylic on Primed Cotton with palette knife
To be honest I wasn’t planning on painting this. This painting was painted upside down with no idea of what I was going to paint. I actually just wanted to play with paint. As I began seeing water and a skyline, I decided to go with it, upside down. I was painting and talking with Jesus (I usually do), the words “பரம வாசஸ்தலம்” in Tamil popped up into my head. Those words are almost never used in my my vocabulary but I’ve heard them and I know it’s somewhere in the Bible. I searched for it but couldn’t find it. I was a bit surprised with those words. It translates to “Heavenly Dwelling Place”. My neice says it looks like Manhattan skyline, and it does, except for two buildings. So going by that I’ve simply named it, The City. Interpret as you want.
I love the end result. There’s so much texture when you run your fingers on the water.
And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.
