Inspiration Behind This Painting
This is painting #1 of the Potter’s House Collection.
But now, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand. Isaiah 64:8 ESV
I am not a potter, but a painter. I understand what it feels like to make things with my hand. The first verse in the Bible is Genesis 1:1 – “In the beginning God created the heavens and earth”. Eventually, He created humans too. He did not speak humans into existence, instead he took some clay, fashioned them into His likeness and breathed the breath of life into them. Like a Potter, He delighted in His work and still does. With every baby born into this world, His Creator heart delights. His desire is that the works of His hand will bring joy to His heart and to those around them. His heart’s desire is that the works of His hand would serve a good purpose.
He is sovereign over our making. He knows what to make and when to make. It’s His house and His plan. His decisions have a reason. As clay pots, we cannot question our Maker because He alone knows why He made us and how He will use us. When the pot turns out to His desire, He lifts the pot up with His hands, looks at it, His eyes glistening with joy. He even sings a song over His creation, rejoicing over it, for the vessel turned out to His liking.
The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing. Zephaniah 3:17
