Inspiration Behind This Painting
As I was painting this portrait of Jesus with the thorn of crowns, I remembered Jesus being brought before the Jews by Pontius Pilate. “Behold, your king”, Pilate said, and the Jewish people cried out, “Crucify Him, Crucify Him”. Crucify the King?
Sometimes, we dethrone Him too, forgetting who He is. The King who owns everything and who’s kingdom is not of this world. We forget His power and His focus. We reduce Him to a genie sometimes. He remains the King though and He established His kingdom by becoming a servant, bleeding on the cross for His people. He did not win by waging a war with nations, or by using a weapon of destruction. He won by being led like a sheep to the slaughter, pouring out His life to the point of death. Would we recognize His Kingship and take on the mind of Christ?
Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
